• How long does a massage take?
Most massages take about an hour, though the first massage may take longer as there
may be more areas to be worked out. Pre and Post event massages typically take around
20 minutes depending on the horses specific needs.
• How often should my horse be massaged?
Each horse and situation is different , so
I will discuss my recommendations with you after the initial massage.
• Can I ride my horse before the massage?
Yes, but there should be a cool down period of at least 20 minutes before the massage
session.
• Can I ride my horse after the massage?
Yes, a massage is a great warm up for the muscles. Optimally the horse should be
walked for 10 minutes after the massage.
• How do horses typically react to massage?
Each horse and massage session is different. Some are fidgety, especially if I am
working on a sore spot. Often, the horse will relax into the massage, lowering his
head and licking his lips. Some will begin to sweat due to the increase of circulation
and release of certain chemicals.
• Do you massage equines other than horses?
Absolutely! Donkeys, mules and miniatures can all benefit from equine massage.
Frequently Asked Questions (Human)
• What should I expect on my first visit?
You will need to fill out a health history form. Afterwards I will begin by asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions needing to be addressed and to determine if massage is appropriate for you. It is important to list all health concerns and medications so I can adapt the session to your specific needs without doing any harm. It is also important to list any allergies so I am aware if I need to use a different oil or lotion during the session.
• Do I have to be completely undressed?
You should undress to the level you are comfortable. For a full body massage, most get completely undressed. However, if you will be more comfortable during the session if you leave your some clothing on, that's fine. I will work around the clothes you left on as best as I can. If removing all your clothes makes you too nervous and unable to relax, then you are not getting the optimal benefit from the session. I will give you privacy to undress and get comfortable on the table. You will be draped by a sheet and/or towel and only the body part being massaged will be exposed.
• Can I talk during the session?
Speak up! If you want anything changed: pressure, areas worked, position or if you are too hot or too cold. You will not hurt my feelings by asking for something that will make you more comfortable. I want this to be the best experience for you to relax and enjoy. Also, what you requested in one session may be different in another. If you had a full body massage last time you had a session, but this time you only want your back/neck/shoulders/arms worked, it's perfectly fine to ask.
